Philadelphia’s 249th Birthday 🇺🇸

Philadelphia’s 249th Birthday 🇺🇸

As the birthplace of America, Philadelphia takes the 4th of July very seriously! 🇺🇸

On July 4, 1776, delegates from the 13 colonies declared to the world that they were separating from England and forming a new country called the United States.

This year is the 249th birthday of America! And the celebration this year includes a pilgrimage to the founding city of America, to walk the cobblestone streets where patriots, founding fathers, and everyday people have walked now for 249 years! How incredible is that? For those of us who have grown up in and around the city, we know the feeling that being in the City of Brotherly Love brings. It is a feeling of pride and belonging. To live in the city where our entire country was formed is unparalleled to any other city in America.

The Declaration of Independence established the colonies as a new nation in 1776, and eleven years later, in 1787, the U.S. Constitution gave us our laws. Inspiration for the Constitution came from Philadelphia founder William Penn’s progressive ideas in his document, “Charter of Privileges,” which allowed for individual rights and self-government in Pennsylvania.

Important conversations took place in these places in Philadelphia, which, to this day, are tourist attractions to people all over the world who come to visit our beautiful city!

Betsy Ross House

  • a 1740s residence that is said to be home to the first sewn American flag.

Carpenter’s Hall

  • served as the secret meeting place for the 1st Continental Congress.

City Tavern

  • this was a celebration site for milestones such as the first anniversary of Independence, George Washington’s farewell dinner… and the very first stock exchange in the U.S. was founded in the front room.

Liberty Bell

  • the big bell, whose origin was to “Proclaim Liberty thro’,” and was known to mark time, events, and emergencies in the 1800s.

We have an amazing city to explore 12 months, 365 days a year—but this weekend, tomorrow, July 4th in particular, is a great time to be a Philadelphia native!

As a team deeply rooted in Philadelphia’s storied neighborhoods, The Sivel Group takes pride in helping clients plant their own flags here—whether it’s finding the perfect city rowhome or a peaceful retreat just beyond the skyline. This 4th of July, we’re celebrating not only the spirit of independence but the vibrant communities that make Greater Philadelphia feel like home.

Have a nice holiday weekend, sit on a picnic blanket, watch some fireworks, enjoy a cold beverage, and hug your loved ones. ♥️ God Bless America. 🇺🇸
